L’esito della 21ma edizione dei Critics Choice Awards avvalora sempre di più l’ipotesi di uno split anche per gli Oscar. A Spotlight è andato il premio al miglior film, a Mad Max: Fury Road quello per la regia (George Miller), mentre Leonardo Di Caprio (Revenant)  e Brie Larson (Room) hanno trionfato tra gli attori protagonisti. La cerimonia, che si è tenuta nel lussuoso Barker Hangar dell’aeroporto di Santa Monica (là dove i più ricchi del pianeta tengono I loro jet privati), ha regalato soddisfazioni anche a Sylvester Stallone (Creed) e Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), premiati tra gli attori non protagonisti, al piccolo Jacob Tremblay di Room, eletto migliore interprete emergente, e a Rami Malek, che porta a casa il premio come migliore attore di una serie drammatica (Mr. Robot).
