A causa degli imprevisti effetti di una misteriosa tempesta magnetica, una portaerei atomica americana dei giorni nostri, la 'Nimitz', torna indietro nel tempo e si ritrova nel 1941, proprio alla vigilia dell'attacco giapponese alla base hawaiana di Pearl Harbour. Per il comandante della nave la scelta è tra il mutare il corso della storia e il lasciare che gli eventi si susseguano come sappiamo.
